FAQ
Frequently asked questions
General
Q: How long does a typical flooring project take?
A: Project timelines can vary depending on factors such as square footage, material type, product availability, and shipping times. Once we review your project details, we’ll provide an estimated schedule so you know exactly what to expect.
Q: Can I see samples before choosing my flooring?
A: Absolutely! Our vendors are happy to provide samples of any product you’re interested in. We’ll make sure you have the opportunity to see and feel the materials before making your final decision.

Quotes & Estimates
Q: Is there a charge for estimates?
A: No, all of our estimates are completely free. We’re happy to provide a detailed quote so you can make an informed decision with no obligation.
Q: What factors affect the cost of my flooring project?
A: The cost of your flooring project can vary based on several factors, including the total square footage, type of material selected, labor requirements, and any additional preparation or customization needed.
Installation Process
Q: What should I do to prepare my home for installation?
A: We recommend clearing the installation area by removing all valuables, fragile items, and small furniture. Make sure pets and children are kept safely away from the workspace. If large furniture needs to be moved, let us know in advance so we can discuss arrangements before the installation date.
Q: Do you remove old flooring?
A: Yes, we can remove and dispose of your old flooring if needed. Please note that demolition services may affect the total cost of your project. We’ll include this option in your estimate if you’d like us to handle it.
Q: Who handles moving furniture before installation?
A: Typically, the customer is responsible for moving furniture and personal belongings out of the installation area.
Q: Will installation create dust or mess?
A: Some dust and debris are normal during flooring installation, especially during demolition or cutting. Our team takes steps to minimize the mess and will clean up the work area once installation is complete. We have a partnership with a trusted dustless floor removal company for repairs and replacements.
Q: How long should I wait before walking on my new floor?
A: The wait time depends on the type of flooring installed. For example, hardwood floors may need 24 hours to set, while vinyl or laminate floors can often be walked on right away. Your installer will provide specific guidance based on your flooring type.
Q: What if I have issues after the installation is complete?
A: Your satisfaction is important to us. If you experience any issues after installation, please contact us right away. We’ll review the concern and schedule a follow up visit if necessary to ensure everything meets our quality standards.
Product Questions
Q: Which type of flooring is best for high traffic areas?
A: The best materials there are those that resist scratching, denting, and fading over time such as Porcelain/Ceramic Tile and LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank).
Q:What flooring options are waterproof?
A: Waterproof flooring is ideal in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, basements, and any place with moisture exposure. Common waterproof / moisture tolerant materials include Porcelain Tile, LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank).
Q: Can flooring be installed over existing floors?
A: Yes, often we can install new flooring over your existing surface, which can save time and cost. However, there are some potential complications and limitations to be aware of:
Height / clearance issues: Adding flooring over existing material increases the finished floor height. This can affect door clearances, transitions to other rooms, baseboards, and appliances.
Structural / subfloor suitability: The existing floor must be level, stable, and flat. Any sagging, unevenness, or soft spots must be addressed before installing new flooring, or it may lead to failures like buckling, cracking, or separation.
Adhesion / compatibility: The new flooring adhesive or locking system must be compatible with the underlying material (e.g. tile, vinyl, concrete, wood). Some materials may impede bonding or cause long term issues.
Moisture / vapor barriers: If moisture is moving through the old floor (especially over concrete or in basements), you may need a moisture barrier or mitigation system before installation.
Warranty / manufacturer guidelines: Some manufacturers only honor warranties when certain conditions are met (for example, the substrate must be removed). We will always verify whether your specific flooring choice allows install over existing surfaces.
Maintenance
Q: How do I clean and maintain my new floor?
A: Proper cleaning and maintenance depend on the type of flooring (hardwood, laminate, vinyl, tile, etc.), but here are general best practices:
Daily / frequent cleaning: Sweep, dust mop, or vacuum regularly (with a soft floor setting or felt/soft wheels) to remove grit and debris that can scratch surfaces.
Damp mopping (when needed): Use a well wrung microfiber mop with a cleaner designed for your floor’s finish. Avoid excess water, never flood the surface.
Clean spills immediately: Liquids left on the floor can penetrate finishes, warp boards, or cause staining.
Use proper protection: Place doormats (indoors and outdoors) to catch dirt, use area rugs in high traffic zones, and use felt pads or soft glides under furniture legs.
Control environment: Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature to reduce expansion/contraction in wood or engineered materials.
Periodic polishing / refreshing (if applicable): Some floors benefit from “recoat” or maintenance polishing to restore protective finish and appearance—but only when recommended for your specific material.
Q: Can I use steam mops or harsh cleaners?
A: In most cases, no, steam mops and harsh chemical cleaners are not recommended (especially for wood or laminate).
Q: How often should I refinish my hardwood floors?
A: The frequency of refinishing depends on usage, the thickness of the wood, and the quality of the finish. Many hardwood floors only need refinishing (i.e. sanding and applying a new surface finish) every 7 to 10 years under normal residential use.
Q: What should I do if my flooring gets scratched or damaged?
A: How you repair damage depends on the flooring type and severity, but here are general strategies:
Minor surface scratches or scuffs (on wood): Use a manufacturer recommended touch up pen, wax stick, filler, or blending pencil that matches the floor color. Light polishing or buffing might help.
Deeper gouges / damaged planks (on wood): Replace the individual plank or section (if possible), then refinish or stain to match the rest of the floor.
Laminate / luxury vinyl: Many scratches can sometimes be masked using repair kits (fillers, markers) made for those floors. For deeper damage, replacement of the affected plank or tile might be best.
Tile / stone: Replace the broken tile or re-grout/repair the seam.
Prompt care: Clean around the damaged area, ensure the floor is dry, and follow any product specific repair guidelines.
Preventive protection: Use area rugs, felt pads, avoid dragging heavy furniture, and trim pet nails to reduce future damage.
